Research Thrust Areas

Under the broad thrust area of “Sustainability of Agri-Ecosystem”, the School of Social Sciences focuses on multidisciplinary research aimed at addressing the unique challenges and opportunities in the North Eastern Hill (NEH) region. The thrust area is further organized into the following six themes/ researchable issues:

1. Farm Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in NEH Region:
   Focuses on promoting agripreneurship, value addition, and livelihood diversification to enhance farm income and rural employment.
2. Climate Change and Agriculture in NEH Region:
   Addresses the impact of climate variability on agricultural systems and explores adaptation and mitigation strategies for resilient farming.
3. Livelihood and Gender Issues in Different Agro-Ecosystems of NEH
   Emphasizes inclusive development by studying gender roles, equity, and livelihood dynamics across diverse farming systems.
4. Policy Research for Agricultural Development:
   Involves analysis of agricultural policies, institutions, and programs to support evidence-based decision-making and regional development.
5. Knowledge and Innovation Systems, Capacity Development, Education and Extension
   Focuses on strengthening extension systems, enhancing knowledge transfer, and building capacities of farmers and stakeholders.
6. Research Methodology and Methods:
   Aims to improve the quality and rigor of research through advanced methodologies, analytical tools, and interdisciplinary approaches
